The new M5 is the first Android device by Tecno to spot a 4.5-inch display. So, if for any reason you’re not comfortable with the giant displays flaunted by the D7 and Phantom series, then this might be more like what you want.
Here, we’ll be reviewing the M5, leaving to decide in the end whether or not the device is really worth its price.
Now, let’s look at the various features packed by the Tecno M5.
Design
The M5 doesn’t really look any different from Tecno’s traditional design. As expected, almost the entire front surface is occupied by the huge display, under which lie the three control buttons, and above which lie the slit for the speaker and the front-facing camera.
On the backside of the phone lie the camera and its flash above, and the curved slit for the speaker below. Aside these, the rest of the back surface is plain.
Since the display is a bit smaller than the 5-inches (at 4.5-inches diagonally), the device is more portable and easier to handle than the devices with larger displays.
Display
The Tecno M5 spots a 4.5-inch TFT capacitive touch screen display. And as is the case with its predecessors, the screen is very sharp, and it displays tiny details in pictures and videos.
Although it won’t offer the same display quality as those high-end devices by the likes of Apple and Samsung, you would be glad with what you will see.
Performance and memory
Running on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), the M5 is powered by a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor. It packs 1GB of RAM (a good one there, Tecno) with 4GB of internal memory, which can be expanded with a microSD card.
With these features, the M5 is capable of running even heavy apps and HD games with absolute ease.
Camera and other features
The Tecno M5 flaunts an 8MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. The primary camera has a flash, which makes it possible to take images in the dark.
The device packs all the sensors present in its predecessors (Gravity, Proximity, and Light sensors) and comes preloaded with apps such as Facebook, Opera mini, Google Play, Gmail, YouTube, Palmchat, Maps, Gameloft, and Whatsapp.
Battery
With a rating of 1800mAh, the Li-ion battery in the Tecno M5 can last up to 10 hours with heavy use, and more than 24 hours with moderate use.
